Keaton Prescott, under his stage name Sullivan King, released a new two-song EP called Reckless/Breathless which creates an intriguing mix of EDM, metal, and tasteful alternative rock. When commenting on his September 6th EP release through Kannibalen Records, Keaton explained how the two song’s elements were limited to essentially the same elements. He goes on to say, “It was all one linear feeling the way one would get where you get furious, but then feel regret right after that, and wish you could fix something, but can’t.” I think upon reviewing “Reckless” and “Breathless” yourselves, you will find this is captured quite well.

Urgent message for all head bangers, both EDM and metal alike, please note that you may hurt your neck while listening to “Reckless.” This song comines metal and EDM so well that I didn’t get the chance to take my hat off to Keaton, because it flew off while listening. In comparison to his other song on the EP, this song is far more aggressive. The drops and vocals, although repetitive, create a perfect environment for those who thrive in the pit.

The second song, “Breathless,” is more lyrically and instrumentally focused than the first song. The first minute and 10 seconds, the song seems as though it is going to be an acoustic post-hardcore song. It gracefully builds from there, first blending the instrumental sound with EDM but focusing on the guitar lead, and then taking the lead and merging both sounds more evenly.

Both songs are quite different to me. Due to the ferocious nature of “Reckless,” I’ll definitely be adding it to my workout playlist to get in those extra reps. However, “Breathless” is far more depressing lyrically and softer in overall tone, but still just as solid. Keaton’s music is reminiscent of artists like Odezsa, Excision, Snails and arguably even Ghost Town.
