The Atlanta-based Oswald brothers (Zach, vocals; Jacob, guitar; Nich, drums) form the pop rock outfit, OBB (oh-bee-bee). They are all about staying connected with the fans wherever they go and are heavily engaged with their own Facebook fan group called The OBBsessed. OBB recently released a single called “Close By” which is about missing their significant others while out of town, and it’s fitting since they are currently on the road until mid-September.
They’ve performed hundreds of shows to a combined audience of over 3 million, and their song “Mona Lisa” was featured in a Google Chromebook National Ad Campaign and an episode of “Dude Perfect,” which is approaching 60M views. OBB is definitely gaining traction and speed.
GNM decided to catch up with Jacob and his brothers while they were on the road to see how they preoccupy their downtime on the tour bus.
☽ Are you guys excited about this tour? What will make it different?
We are super excited about this tour because we are playing all of our new music! It will be different because it will be smaller, more intimate venues, so we really can get to know our fans!
☽ What are you most looking forward to? Are you revisiting favorite places?
We have played in most of these cities before, but even if you have seen us before, it will be a completely new show this time, so don’t miss out! So we are excited to revisit all of these cities!
☽ If you could design any tour campaign, what would you include? (venue choice, travel options, entertainment, etc).
If we could design our own tour campaign, Jacob would include: traveling on a tour bus to get to the cities, hiking different scenic places in each city, and touring in other countries such as New Zealand and Iceland.
Zach would want to find the most popular gym in the city and get a super intense workout in. He would also want to travel by tour bus. He would like to play scenic venues like near the beaches.
Nich would want to travel by private jet to his shows. He would also like to visit all the local coffee shops to find the best one!
☽ How do you curb tour bus boredom?
Playing video games, watching movies, and writing music.
☽ What are your favorite albums/podcasts, books, or games?
Eric Church: “Desperate Man” and “Chief”
Lauv: “I Met You When I Was 18”
Khalid: “Free Spirit”
Charlie Puth: “Nine Track Mind”
Post Malone: “Stoney”
“The Joe Rogan Experience”
We listen to a lot of different fitness podcasts
We also listen to a lot of outdoor podcasts
☽ Have any of your songs spurred from a tour bus idea/jam sesh? Or do you just enjoy the downtime?
We sometimes have jam sessions on the bus, but we normally learn and play cover songs.
☽ Any insight or tips for newly touring bands?
Make the experience fun, and make the most of the little moments!
